Attic Insulation Facts

New windows are an important part of the home energy equation. Drafty old ones are definitely not the way to go if you want to keep your heating and cooling bills to a absolute minimum.

How much attic insulation does your home have? Did you know that here in Michigan the recommended insulation level for an attic is R-48.

So a typical attic in an older home that looks like this:

With about 2 inches of fiberglass batt has an R-Value of about 5. Even a new new batt of Owens-Corning is not nearly enough attic insulation for our Michigan winters.
